If you are searching for a Casio Royale mod in the UK — or considering a custom AE-1200 from a UK-based modifier while living elsewhere — you will quickly find that “modded AE-1200” can mean very different things. Some watches use subtle display filters and strap changes. Others replace cases, faceplates or bracelets. Some are sold as complete watches, while others are modification parts for you to fit yourself.
JamLabs is based in the UK, but the buying advice in this guide applies wherever you are. International buyers are welcome wherever delivery to your destination is available at checkout. The important thing is knowing exactly what you are buying before you choose a build: the base watch, display colours, backlight, water resistance, materials, shipping expectations, and whether a ready-made or personalised watch is the better option.

What is a Casio Royale mod?
“Casio Royale” is the enthusiast nickname commonly used for the Casio AE-1200. A Casio Royale mod is simply an AE-1200 that has been customised beyond its standard factory appearance.
The underlying AE-1200 is already a very capable digital watch. The genuine AE-1200WHD-1AV specification includes World Time across 31 time zones and 48 cities plus UTC, five daily or one-time alarms, a 1/100-second stopwatch, a countdown timer, an amber LED light and an approximate 10-year battery life.
Modding changes the look and feel of that platform rather than the basic reason people like it in the first place: it is practical, distinctive and unusually customisable for an affordable digital watch.
If you want the background first, read What Is a Casio Royale Mod? The Casio AE-1200 Explained.
1. Check whether you are buying a complete watch or only mod parts
This sounds obvious, but it is one of the easiest things to miss when comparing listings. Search results for AE-1200 mods can include complete modified watches, replacement cases, faceplates, straps, filters and DIY kits.
If you want a watch that arrives ready to wear, make sure the listing clearly states that the purchase includes the complete Casio watch and not simply the parts required to modify one.
At JamLabs, the watches in the ready-made custom AE-1200 collection start with a genuine Casio AE-1200 and are individually modified as complete watches.
2. Understand what a coloured LCD filter actually does
Colour filters are one of the most dramatic AE-1200 modifications because they can turn the standard display into blue, red, amber, green, gradient or multi-colour designs.
There is an important distinction, though: a coloured display is not the same thing as a glowing display. The filter changes the appearance of the LCD by controlling the colour of the light you see through it. It does not turn the LCD into a permanently illuminated screen.
The factory AE-1200 uses an amber LED backlight. A coloured filter can affect how that light appears through different sections of the LCD, but the original light source remains amber unless a separate electronic backlight modification has specifically been carried out.
If display colour is important to you, look for photographs taken with the watch unlit as well as any backlight images. That gives you a much better idea of how it will actually look on your wrist during normal use.
For a deeper explanation, see the Casio AE-1200 Colour Filters Explained guide.
3. Look closely at the base watch and materials
The standard AE-1200 comes in several factory configurations. For example, the AE-1200WHD-1AV uses a resin case with a stainless-steel bracelet. A custom build may retain those parts or replace some of them with resin straps, leather-style straps, metal cases, different bracelets or aftermarket components.
None of those choices is automatically better. They simply create a different result.
A resin strap can make the watch lighter and more casual. A leather-style strap changes the character completely. A metal case can add weight and a more substantial feel. The important thing is that the listing tells you what has actually been changed rather than leaving you to infer it from photographs.
If you prefer brown leather, our AE-1200 brown leather buying guide compares the finished builds and explains what to check for strap fit. The Sunset Leather watch is a complete, ready-to-wear option.
4. Treat water resistance differently after a watch has been opened
Casio rates the standard AE-1200WHD-1AV for 100-metre water resistance. Once a watch has been opened for modification, however, it is sensible to separate the manufacturer's original specification from what can be guaranteed after the work.
Seals can be reinstalled carefully, but unless the finished watch has been independently pressure tested, you should not assume that the original factory water-resistance rating has automatically been preserved.
That is why JamLabs does not independently guarantee Casio's original water-resistance rating after modification. It is a less exciting detail than display colours, but it is exactly the kind of information a good custom-watch listing should make clear before you buy.
5. Check the photographs for accuracy, not just atmosphere
Cinematic photography can make a custom watch look fantastic, but you should still be able to understand what the physical watch actually looks like.
Pay particular attention to the LCD colour, strap, case finish, faceplate artwork and backlight. If an image makes a coloured display appear permanently luminous, look for a standard product image or written explanation that clarifies the real behaviour of the watch.
For a custom watch, accurate expectations matter more than making every photograph look dramatic. The best listing imagery should sell the design without suggesting a feature the physical watch does not have.
6. Decide whether you want a ready-made design or a personalised build
A ready-made mod is the simplest choice if you find a design that already feels right. You can see the completed concept, price and product photographs before ordering.
A personalised build makes more sense when you already know the direction you want. That might be a particular colour combination, display treatment, strap direction or an original design that belongs to you.
JamLabs offers personalised Casio AE-1200 builds by enquiry. The idea is discussed first, the practical limits of the build are explained, and the price is confirmed before you commit. That is especially useful for a watch where several small choices can change the final appearance significantly.
7. Buying from a UK-based modifier — in the UK or overseas
If you are in the UK, buying from a UK-based modifier can make communication, delivery expectations and after-sales contact more straightforward. You are also avoiding the extra uncertainty that can come with importing a finished watch from another country.
If you are outside the UK, however, a UK-based seller should not automatically rule the watch out. Instead, check whether your destination is supported at checkout, the quoted shipping cost and expected delivery window, and whether your country may apply import taxes, duties or customs handling charges when the parcel arrives.
JamLabs watches are individually prepared, checked and packed in the UK before dispatch. Ready-made watches can be bought directly from the store wherever checkout offers delivery to the destination, while personalised builds begin with an enquiry so the design and price can be agreed first.
What should you look for in a good Casio Royale mod listing?
- A clear statement of whether you are buying a complete watch or parts only.
- The exact Casio base model or a clear explanation of the base watch.
- Accurate photographs of the finished watch.
- An explanation of any LCD filter or backlight changes.
- Clear strap, case and material information.
- Honest wording around water resistance after modification.
- Processing, shipping and returns information you can find before paying.
- A clear distinction between independent custom work and officially licensed merchandise where themed inspiration is involved.
Buying a JamLabs AE-1200 from outside the UK
International orders are welcome wherever delivery to your destination is available at checkout. Available shipping options, prices and estimated delivery times can vary by destination, so check the order summary before paying.
Depending on your country, an international parcel may also be subject to local import VAT, customs duties or carrier handling charges. Unless checkout explicitly states that those charges have been collected in advance, they may be payable by the recipient. When comparing a UK-made custom watch with an option closer to home, it is worth comparing the total landed cost rather than the product price alone.
If you are unsure whether JamLabs can ship to your location or want to discuss an international personalised build before ordering, get in touch and I can confirm what is practical.

Frequently asked questions
Is a Casio Royale the same as a Casio AE-1200?
“Casio Royale” is an unofficial enthusiast nickname for the Casio AE-1200 family. It is not Casio's official model name.
Do coloured AE-1200 displays glow?
Not simply because a colour filter has been fitted. A filter changes the visible colour of the LCD. The standard AE-1200WHD-1AV uses an amber LED backlight, so a coloured filter should not be assumed to create a permanently glowing or neon display.
Does modifying an AE-1200 remove its normal functions?
Visual modifications such as filters, straps and face treatments do not inherently remove the normal AE-1200 functions. A finished build should still be checked individually, and any modification that changes functionality should be stated by the seller.
Is a modified AE-1200 still 100M water resistant?
Casio rates the unmodified AE-1200WHD-1AV for 100-metre water resistance. After a watch has been opened, that factory rating should not be assumed to remain guaranteed unless the finished watch has been appropriately tested.
Can I order a JamLabs Casio AE-1200 from outside the UK?
Yes, where delivery to your destination is available at checkout. International delivery times vary, and local import VAT, customs duties or handling charges may apply depending on your country.
Can JamLabs make a one-off AE-1200?
Yes, subject to what is technically achievable and what artwork or branding can legally be used. You can start through the personalised build enquiry page.
